The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1263, which is therefore his "birth certificate". The municipality of Taufkirchen (Vils) took this date as an opportunity to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the town's cultural gem in 2013. In May 2016, the municipality of Taufkirchen (Vils) acquired the castle, primarily with the intention of keeping the complex open to the public. The castle now houses a permanent gastronomy. Private celebrations and conferences can take place on the ground floor of the east wing. Cultural offerings and events are also part of the programme.
