This "boulder forest" is unparalleled in size in Germany: around 2000 boulders of almost every size have been collected under great effort since 1976. And in this rocky area more and more, especially the same number of boulders on the private property of Heinrich Rode is stored in Petershagen-Neuenknick.

Already father and grandfather Rode had to deal professionally with these glacial relics by blowing up the boulders and thus allowing the farmers to better tillage their fields. The ruins of the boulders were used in road construction. However, in 1976, Heinrich Rode first began to deposit boulders in his forest to protect them from being destroyed. As stones still literally "grow" out of the earth year after year in this area, it has become a permanent task to retrieve the rocks often cut from the glacier ice by ball-ground stones and to present them to the astonished visitor.

The heaviest specimen weighs at least 12.5 t and is over three meters high. He was - as similar heavy specimens - laboriously excavated with excavator and shovel in the field, brought with pulleys, pulleys and winches in the correct position, practiced with winches and wheel loaders on a low loader, weighed on a large scale and transported to the boulder forest, where a similar Procedure until the final installation was necessary.

The tourist attraction of the city of Petershagen, which has been a tourist attraction for years, now attracts not only visitors from the immediate vicinity but, for also from further afield from Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, from Ostwestfalen-Lippe and the Hanoverian.

The boulder forest has something mystical about it, depending on the incidence of light. A refuge and several seating options between the boulders offer a nice resting place. A great photo hotspot!
