View of the Landwasser Viaduct from below

The Landwasser Viaduct is one of the Rhaetian Railway's most elegant bridge structures. The brick, curved arch bridge rests on upwardly tapered piers with trapezoidal cross-sections. It is 65 meters high and has a span of 6 x 20 meters. At the upper end, the track leads directly into a tunnel—a fascinating setting for both passengers and observers.

For example, from Tiefencastel you can take the Rhaetian Railway (I think one or two stops) to Filisur station. On this journey you cross the Landwasser (small river) on the viaduct. It is much more impressive when you stand below (the path goes towards Schmitten) and then see the trains driving over the 65-meter-high bridge/viaduct built in 1902 (!). Every now and then the train disappears briefly into a tunnel before crossing the rest of the viaduct.
