Originally, the wet stream rivulet of the Northern Rietzschke was located on the site of the present park, which was also called the "Erlengrund". After the incorporation of Eutritzsch 01.01.1890 a development plan was set up for the suburb, which provides a green area for the unsuitable as a construction site terrain. Although the Eutritzscher Park was already planned in 1898/1899 in its entirety by the Leipzig garden director O. Wittenberg (1834-1918), his installation was then in two sections. From 1899 to 1904, initially the southern part was created, the Northern Rietzschke z. T. was laid and vaulted. Here a 9,460 m² park pond was dug, which served as an ice rink in winter. In the years 1913/1914 also the northern part of the park was created. In the second half of the 20th century (before 1951), the Eutritzscher Park was named Arthur-Bretschneider-Park (after the teacher and LDPD politician A. Bretschneider, 1886-1949). Since the 1990s, the name "Arthur-Bretschneider-Park" is officially no longer used by the city administration, but in the vernacular it still means so.
