During the Second World War on September 4, 1944, the bridge over the Saône was blown up by the retreating German Wehrmacht. Previously, the Royal Air Force had bombed and destroyed the bridge in Seurre. Thus important west-east connections were interrupted over the Saône as well as also the railway line from Dijon to Lons-le-Saunier. (Wikipedia)

Its worth to leave the EuroVeloRoute 6 here briefly to cross the bridge to the northern side of the Saône river and explore this little town, with a great museum about the canal boat history, and a small harbor further inlands that once served the smaller old canal boats and now tries to reinvent itself for the pleasure boats using the canal.
