By the way, you have from the water-bound bike path, which runs partly over the old route of the Ewaldbahn, a great view of former areas of mining - here you can see the consequences of the subsidence.
The path leads you from the Emscher bike path to the Halde Hoheward and has direct connection to the railway tracks "Allee des Wandels".

Until the 19th century, the Emscherbruch was the natural floodplain of the Emscher. Today's swamp and water areas were then created by subsidence due to coal mining in the surrounding mines. Many animal and plant species, some of which are rare and strictly protected, live here.
