Ground monument and model of the former Blankenberg Castle. The medieval Blankenberg Castle, rebuilt into a palace since the early modern period, was blown up on June 14, 1948 on the basis of Order No. 209 of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany. Structural remains of the castle were uncovered after 1990. In 2007, on the occasion of the 775th anniversary, a 1:10 scale model of the castle was set up on a roundabout at the foot of the ruin. Magnificent view from the bastion of the Saale valley.

The "Veste Plankenberg" has stood high above the Saale valley for over 8 centuries.
Until 1948, the castle still housed a doctor's office and several apartments of the employees of the former manor.
When the Soviet Military Administration (SMA) and the district council in Schleiz ordered the immediate demolition in the spring of 1948, the efforts of the local doctor and several guarantors to keep the castle were of no use ......
The castle was blown up.
What madness .....The model of Blankenburg Castle, which has found its place here, is also very beautiful.

The Veste Planckenberg is first mentioned in documents in 1232. This castle in Blankenberg was originally imperial and had different owners. It formed a closed area with the manor until the end of World War II. In 1948 the "Old Castle" was blown up without any necessity. The ruins are now accessible again and are dug up and secured thanks to dedicated citizens.
