The impressive structure of this open-air Stations of the Cross, beautifully embedded in nature a little above the village of Adenau, has two grottos:
+ At the beginning one with a depiction of Jesus' prayer on the Mount of Olives,
+ At the end one with a depiction of the burial of Jesus.
In between, the well-known 14 Stations of the Cross are lined up along the Stations of the Cross.

The Adenauer Kreuzweg was built in the neo-Gothic style between 1861 and 1863. To finance this, a lottery was set up which, together with the donations, brought in the costs of building the Way of the Cross up to 4 Thaler. In addition, there were numerous hours of volunteer work by the population. The angels 'guard' the beginning of the path. Shortly behind it is the Mount of Olives Grotto, the end marks the Entombment Grotto. The photo shows the Mount of Olives grotto in summer. For more information on the cultural highlight (cultural monument) see stadt-adenau.de/kultur/kreuzweg.htmlIf you follow the Eifel ladder from the Hohe Acht, you walk the Way of the Cross 'backwards'.
