Engineers constructed a scale model to test how breakwaters, groynes, and sand nourishment could best be applied to protect the coast. This allowed various solutions to be safely simulated before being implemented on a full scale in Denmark. Today, the remains of the model are still visible: concrete walls, waterways, and vegetated dams that bear silent witness to the time when this forest served as a testing ground for international hydraulic engineering projects.
