This test setup is quite overgrown, but still recognizable. The knowledge gained with Dutch waterworks also led to international requests for research. In Denmark, the coast was seriously affected by erosion.

Research was also conducted in the Waterloopbos on the Danish coast, where erosion caused by waves and currents was causing major problems. Engineers constructed a scale model to test how breakwaters, groynes, and sand nourishment could best be applied to protect the coast. This allowed various solutions to be safely simulated before being implemented on a full scale in Denmark. Today, the remains of the model are still visible: concrete walls, waterways, and vegetated dams that bear silent witness to the time when this forest served as a testing ground for international hydraulic engineering projects.
