The gate testifies to the wealth of the city at the time of origin, when Traben-Trarbach was the largest wine transfer to Bordeaux.

In 1898, what still belongs together came together: the famous Berliner Bruno Möhring designed the bridge between the communities of Traben and Trarbach, which were independent until 1904.
Those were the golden days of viticulture. At that time, the ruble rolled in the famous wine trading city. As can still be seen today, winegrowers and traders had elaborate Art Nouveau villas built on the banks of the Moselle by the talented master builder and colleagues.
A richly decorated bridge gate was also used to crown the new bridge.
The original arched bridge was blown up in 1945 and later replaced by an unspectacular functional bridge. But the Trarbach bridge gate with the grape reliefs and the life-size dancing winegrower couple remained intact.
Today it houses a café-restaurant, as well as a gallery and is considered a symbol of the small town. This bridge gate is to Traben-Trarbach what the glass dome of the Reichstag is to Berlin.

The Traben-Trarbach bridge gate on the Moselle is the town's landmark and stands on the southern bank of the Moselle bridge there. Erected as a decorative bridge according to plans by Bruno Möhring, it has housed a café-restaurant since its construction. In the 1960s, a gallery with changing exhibitions was added as a result of a renovation.
