Separated by a cobblestone street, the Klosterkrug is opposite the monastery Lüne.

After an inscription the monastery was built in 1570. The client was Duke Ernst II of Brunswick-Lüneburg. The half-timbered house is still a restaurant today.

Since 2003, the Klosterkrug is an Italian restaurant with very good cuisine. ristorante-italia.de
In 2010 the monastery was restored and equipped with bookable apartments.

In the 18th century, the house was extended to the west, you can see it in the color scheme and simple framework. On the eastern side you can see elaborate fan rosettes and above the front door two ornate reliefs: on the right Christ with the globe and the right hand raised to blessing, left in profile a Christ turned ruler. (The builder?)

The carved beam between the ground floor and the first floor of the monastery jug names the year of construction of this mighty half-timbered building in 1570. The first mention of the monastery pitcher next to the Lüne monastery dates back to 1528.
The restaurant was very popular with the common people who spent their days playing dice and idling here.
In 1568 the dukes Heinrich and Wilhelm von Braunschweig and Lüneburg commissioned the Lüner bailiff to replace the dilapidated building with a new one. From then on there were some guest rooms for guests of the neighboring monastery. About 20 years later a stable for 4 horses was built.
Numerous tenants continued to run the inn until the house was sold by the State of Lower Saxony in the 1960s. The new owner operated the pitcher as a hotel and restaurant until the 1980s.
After the hotel and the restaurant were closed, asylum seekers were accommodated in the Klosterkrug from the city of Lüneburg.
From 1993 to 1996 the monastery jug was carefully and painstakingly restored by the new owners and since then it has housed an Italian restaurant with a few holiday apartments.

A beautiful half-timbered house next to the monastery.
