The picturesque bathing and artist resort on the peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst exerts its own fascination: breathtaking nature between the Baltic Sea and Bodden, a traditional past as a fishing village and over 125 years of art history combine with the comfort of a modern resort to a gem for Free spirits and demanding connoisseurs.

We came here for the first time in 2008 during our holiday in Born here and found it equally good.

Behind the dunes invites the sprawling white sandy beach with colorfully arranged beach chairs for long sunbathing and soothing baths in the Baltic Sea. Idyllic cycling and hiking trails lead along the steep bank through wide meadows and coastal forests into the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, those seeking relaxation will find inner peace and new strength in the almost untouched nature of this unique landscape mosaic.

After long hiking or cycling tours in the fresh pure sea air, the cafes and restaurants of the place with small and large culinary delights. On the menus dominate finely composed dishes with game from the Darßwald and fresh fish from the Baltic Sea and Bodden.

1390 wanted the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw VI. Ahrenshoop - known as Arneshop in 1311 - is expanding into a larger trading city to benefit from increased trade. The former Arneshop was a little northeast of today's town on the former estuary Loop. It was an important trading place with up to 500 inhabitants. Bogislaw built a castle with moat. The dukes lay with the Hanseatic cities of Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald because of the Wulflam affair in dispute and therefore sought a haven for their trade. In 1392 or 1393, 1000 men from Rostock, whose patricians saw their trading privileges impaired by a seaport on the Darß, destroyed the port of Ahrenshoop and "dammed up" the loop

After the closure of the loop, the customs office was aborted there and established at the former southern edge of the village a permanent customs station (border between Pomerania and Mecklenburg). The place at its present location was founded in 1760 by sailors and fishermen and grew rapidly.

At the end of the 19th century, painters settled down. As a result, the place developed into a seaside resort. In 1909, the Kunstkaten was built, in which many exhibitions have since taken place. The artists' colony Ahrenshoop was not part of the Mecklenburg Fischland, but the westernmost Pomeranian town on the peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst for the Pomeranian Darß. It was only in 1950, the annexation of the Mecklenburg towns Althagen and Niehagen to Ahrenshoop.
