Marienkapelle Altenhain

Nikolaus Henninger from Altenhain was terminally ill in 1878 and he promised the Virgin Mary that he would build a chapel with an image of the Virgin Mary if he got well again.
He got well and so in 1880 he built a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary at the place where you cross the B 519 today. When the B 519 was built in 1968, the memorial had to be relocated, with the municipality of Altenhain offering the current location.Unfortunately, the chapel was not rebuilt in its original state at the time, but was rebuilt in a more modern version. The inauguration took place on August 15, 1971 - inside the chapel there is a copy of the miraculous image from the Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Schönstatt Vallendar near Koblenz. The great-granddaughter of the original builder still looks after it today.
