The Theater Duisburg in downtown Duisburg was built from 1911 to 1912 in the neoclassical style according to a design by architect Martin Dülfer. It seats 1,117 people and, despite some modifications, has been a listed building since 1985. It serves as a venue for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, a theater association founded in 1956 by the cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf.

The inscription on the gable is a quote from Friedrich Schiller's "Homage to the Arts": With all its depths, its heights, I take my life off your gaze. If you have seen the great game of the world, you will return to yourself more richly.Nice motto for a theater.
