Unfortunately, the "castle" is not open to the public. All photos are of the metal gate at the entrance.

A neo-Gothic country house was built at the end of the 19th century on the so-called Pferdeberg hill on the steep eastern shore of Lake Belauer. In the 1920s, it was popular as a "castle restaurant."

Is newly renovated. But unfortunately you only get to the gate.

The village of Belau on the east side of the Belauer See belonged to a manor in the 14th - 15th centuries, whose manor, "the old castle Below", is said to have been located opposite the village on the lake shore, but has disappeared in the dark of history.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the former owner of the Diekhof estate, Wilhelm Rücker, bought in 1983 and had an elegant, picturesque nave built in the neo-Gothic decor of later historicism on the scenic, steep lakeshore on the so-called horse mountain (Dorfstraße 53) .
In the 1920s, this refuge was expanded in a mirror-symmetrical manner and converted into a "castle restaurant", whereby the Gothic facade design, unifying the entire building, was adopted, while the younger interior rooms are furnished in the functional design of the 1920s.
The structure, which appears to be made of one piece from the outside, consists of three parallel two-storey gabled houses, which are connected by a partly one-storey, partly two-storey old-roofed intermediate wing to form a broad, palais-like complex, contains the original country house in the south wing and the adjoining intermediate building, which is based on its interior historical furnishings.
The original main entrance door is still used as a cellar access in the basement that is exposed to the steeply sloping lakeshore. In its dominant location on the slope of the Belauer See and its elegant, stately appearance, the "Schloss-Gaststätte" looks back on a long history as a popular excursion restaurant.
