The Ratsteich in Uelzen is a popular attraction for many citizens and guests. Children especially enjoy spending time by the water and visiting ducks and the like.
The Ratsteich is fed by the Ilmenau. It is dammed in the northern area, the outflow and overflow runs back into the Ilmenau under the Gudestor Bridge.

The Ratsteich was created in 1643 as a result of the Thirty Years' War. It served to reinforce the fortifications and to secure the Gudestor.
Today it and the park are a popular destination for walking and relaxing.
