The Oldenstädter See is "for all" there: On the extensive natural beach sunbathers and water rats get their money. Within a designated area in the southwest of the lake, dogs can enjoy the cool water. For surfers and drivers of smaller boats without a motor is also a water surface reserved. Biotopes provide a sanctuary for plants and animals. Around the lake is a beautiful circular path created for relaxed walks overlooking the water.

On a clear day, a kiosk on the beach has open, offering snacks, drinks, coffee, cake, ice cream and sweets. If you want to use the barbecue hut, bring your own food, charcoal and lighters.
Even in winter, the lake is a popular destination. Ice hockey is played here and there is even a toboggan run.
The bathing water quality of Oldenstädter See is regularly examined. The health authority Uelzen takes samples, which are then examined in a certified laboratory. The results of the investigations are published on the website of the Lower Saxony State Health Office: nlga.niedersachsen.de.
After huge quantities of sand had been mined for the construction of the Elbe side channel in the 1970s, the Oldenstädter See developed from the gigantic pit. At the end of the 90s sand was taken again for the construction of the bypass. And so the water surface of the lake once again increased to its present size.
The Rauchhaus am Oldenstädter See is often used for events.

Pretty lake. There is a circular route on which you can go around the lake on foot or by bike. There are some areas with a sandy beach, including a beach area for dogs (is signposted as "dog beach". There is also a kiosk, but it is probably only open in the summer months, I was there on March 7th (during a bike ride from Dannenberg to Uelzen and back), the kiosk was closed. It looked a bit dreary at the time of year. But I will definitely cycle there again in spring or summer.
