Old church with roots up to the 12th century. The cross-oriented sermon church with little changed interior since 1743 refers to the Reformed-Calvinist coinage. Pulpit and altar are located on the southern wall. The square eighteenth-century coats of arms were financed by Bremen councilors and other personalities. The flat, wooden beamed ceiling adorns lively scrollwork.

Near the mouth of the Wümme, a small Romanesque church was built in the 12th century, which could only be reached by boat or in winter over the ice. The church was due to the many floods on a six-meter-high hill, like an eagle nest "Up'r Horst". The Kirchdorf Wasserhorst got its name. It was first mentioned in documents in 1185.

The square west tower made of bricks and a tent roof is said to have come from the 13th century Gothic gothic octagonal tunnels. He has been largely preserved. The tower clocks are provided with wrought-iron dials. A bell from 1474 comes from the Erzgießer Ghert Klinghe.

In 1743, the hall church was built in the Baroque era for the then reformed community. The elongated nave of red brick under a high pitched roof has emerged from the reconstruction of the old church. Six upright rectangular windows divide the side walls, two windows the straight east wall. It was formerly dedicated to Simon Peter and Judas Thaddaeus.

The idyllic little town of Wasserhorst is over 800 years old. Pretty little church on a 6m high Wurt (Horst), hence the name Wasserhorst. More about the history: bremen-grambke.de/Hoefe+in+Wasserhorst

nice to take a break and look at old water wheels or just look on the map to see which river you are currently on! Is it the gun? or the hammer? Still the Lesum or even an outcrop of the Weser?
