    The name of the mountain derives either from a pre-Latin term of the Ligurian language which means region of the waters, or alternatively it could be an augmentative of the word barnyard.
    The mountain is located on the Ligurian / Padano watershed on the border between the Sturla valley (to the south) and the Aveto valley. To the south-east the Passo della Spingarda separates it from the Monte Nero [3] while to the north-west the ridge continues towards the Passo delle Lame. The mountain is characterized by slightly inclined slopes; on the culminating point there is a metal cross with an orientation table nearby.
