Bike Touring Highlight
From this dune you have a beautiful view over the entire Belly Huizer Sand. Especially in the morning or evening sun you can see the impressive spectacle of shadow and light on the thumbs. The Beekhuizerzand is a drift sand area of approximately 200 hectares. The area was reduced again in 2004 from a forest area to a real drift sand area. Many fly pines have been cut for this and the top layer of the ground has been removed, so that the sprayable sand is exposed again.Drifting sands are unique natural landscapes in Western Europe, the majority of which are located in the Netherlands. They have their own flora and fauna. Typical plants and animals for drifting sands are the lichens and the sand lizards. But also the rare dune pipit, nightjar and slightly more common skylark and crested lark are animals that you can observe on and around the drifting sand.
