The valuable wooden figure of St. Anthony on the high altar of the chapel dates from the 16th century. The attributes of the hermit are the St. Anthony cross in the shape of a T and a dragon or, as elsewhere, a pig. Both were probably originally intended as symbols of the devil, who may have tempted the hermit in the desert all too often. It is therefore not surprising that the vernacular refers to St. Antonius as "Tünnes mit'm Ferken": "Tünnes" is the Rhenish form of Antonius and "Ferken" stands for piglet.

Since Antonius was often invoked as the patron saint against contagious diseases and cattle plagues, it can be assumed that the chapel was built at the time of a cattle plague and that Saint Anthony was chosen as its patron saint and worshiped here.

In 1905 the building was insured for 2,000 marks and the inventory of the Antonius chapel for 1,290 marks. The ridge turret disappeared in a later extension.

The chapel of St. Antonius Abbas (forest break) is a registered monument in part A of the monument list of the municipality of Lindlar, monument no. 106 (de.wikipedia.org).

Idyllically situated, the chapel marks the apex of the ascent - before it goes down to the Dörrenberger Haken on the other side.

It stands prominently on the Höhenstraße
