The church called Streichenkirche is dedicated to Saint Servatius. Exact biographical data on his person are not known, he is said to have been born in Armenia at the beginning of the 4th century and died around 384 in Maastricht in the Netherlands. He probably became bishop of Tongeren in 340.
Servatius is known in popular piety above all as one of the three so-called Ice Saints, together with Pankratius and Boniface (in some areas the cold Sophie was added a day later). The memorial of Saint Servatius in the church calendar is May 13th.
