Neuf-Brisach is a fortification built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, which remains almost completely intact to this day. Its builder was Prestre de Vauban, after whom the district of Freiburg was later named. The fortifications are arranged in a star shape and could be freely designed on the drawing board, as it was a completely new construction, which did not require consideration of any existing features. As a result, Neuf-Brisach also corresponds to the ideal type of a Baroque military town.
