The Wierturm is not part of the old castle fortifications and was only erected in 1884 as a memorial to Jan Wier, a doctor and opponent of the witch hunt, using stones from the castle. The fountain was rediscovered during renovation work in 1934. The Tecklenburger open-air theater takes place in the castle ruins every year.
