You will find a pearl of the Renaissance in small Weikersheim: Weikersheim Castle with its magnificent park is a wonderful intermediate destination on a hike. The fact that the castle can be preserved so well is mainly due to the fact that it was bought by the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1967 and a lot of funds have been made available since then.

The Castle Park:

The part of the historic palace park, modeled on Versailles, ends in the south with the orangeries, where the potted plants overwinter and the exotic plants find shelter. The eastern one can be visited. There you will also find lemon and orange trees, for example.

There are many statues in the castle park. The more sensitive ones are wrapped in winter to protect them from the elements.

Towards the castle in the north, the part ends with the s.g. dwarf avenue.

The western part is an orchard where old fruit varieties thrive. The eastern part is now the public city park.

The Castle:

The castle, which is now owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg, was spared from major fires and war-related destruction - a former moated castle from the 12th century.

You have to pay an entrance fee for the castle and castle garden. You can only get into the castle with a guided tour. The faithfully restored interiors can be visited as part of a guided tour that starts every hour, which is definitely recommended.

The longer tour, which costs little more, also takes you into rooms with inventory that is unparalleled in Europe. Only the palace kitchen is accessible without a tour. There you will find an exciting exhibition on alchemy. Attempts were also made to produce gold and silver in Weikersheim.

Weikersheim Castle is considered the most beautiful of the castles in Hohenlohe. The perfect preservation, not only of the castle, but also of the area surrounding the count's residence is impressive. The highlight is the baroque palace garden with its unique wealth of figures.
