You will find a pearl of the Renaissance in small Weikersheim: Weikersheim Castle with its magnificent park is a wonderful intermediate destination on a hike. The fact that the castle can be preserved so well is mainly due to the fact that it was bought by the state of Baden-WĂŒrttemberg in 1967 and a lot of funds have been made available since then.

You can find the opening times and further information about the castle here: schloss-weikersheim.de/besuchsinformation/oeffnungszeiten.

      The Palace Park:

The section of the historic palace park, designed in the style of Versailles, ends in the south with the orangeries, where potted plants overwinter and exotic plants find shelter. The eastern orangery is open to visitors. There you will find, for example, lemon and orange trees.

Many statues can be seen in the palace park. The more delicate ones are wrapped up in winter to protect them from the elements.

To the north, towards the palace, the park ends with the so-called Dwarf Avenue.

The western part is an orchard where old fruit varieties thrive. The eastern part is now the public city park.

      The Palace:

Spared from major fires and wartime destruction, the palace, now owned by the state of Baden-WĂŒrttemberg, is a former moated castle dating back to the 12th century.

There is an entrance fee for the palace and palace gardens. Access to the palace is only possible with a guided tour. The faithfully restored interiors can be visited as part of a guided tour that starts hourly, which is highly recommended.

You can also take photos during the tour (without flash). More information here: schloss-weikersheim.de
The longer tour, which costs only a little more, also takes you to rooms with furnishings that are unparalleled in Europe. Only the castle kitchen is accessible without a guided tour. There you will find a fascinating exhibition on alchemy. Attempts were also made to produce gold and silver in Weikersheim.

Weikersheim Castle is considered the most beautiful of the castles in Hohenlohe. The perfect preservation, not only of the castle, but also of the area surrounding the count's residence is impressive. The highlight is the baroque palace garden with its unique wealth of figures.
