The St. Katharinen church in Schönemoor was planned and built as a pilgrimage site for the crusaders. As a pilgrimage church, it is not "in the village", but romantic between pastures and fields with a double avenue as an access road. After the inauguration in 1324, pilgrims were granted a 40-day indulgence from purgatory. This is stated in a certificate of indulgence of the Pope in Avignon from 1333, which is issued as a copy in the entrance to the church. After the Reformation, indulgences were also abolished here. Today it is mainly used as a parish church.
