The Ochtum, together with its longest source river, is a left tributary of the Weser with a length of around 59 kilometers. In Lower Saxony and Bremen, the Ochtum flows north-west on the southwestern edge of the Wesermarsch parallel to the slope of the Syker Geest, from which most of its tributaries flow.
