The 22.5-meter-high lighthouse was built in 1898 at the Bremer volcano and served until the beginning of 1983 as a navigation sign in the directional fire line of the Lower Weser. He was put into operation with a petrol fire with belt lens and reflector. 58 years later until his retirement, he was then electrically "fired".

Since 1983, the red-white lighthouses on the Ritzenbütteler sand the ships on the way to the Weser.

Lemwerder's landmark is the beautifully restored black lighthouse, an old Weser beacon. Until the beginning of 1983 it served as a rear light in the leading light line between Elsfleth and Blumenthal on the Lower Weser for ships sailing up the Weser. The height of the fire was 22 m. A belt lens bundled the white light that could be seen 12 nautical miles. The associated 12 m high front light was dismantled. Today's new pair of towers is much closer to the banks of the Weser.
