Super great working mill with inside inspection at operation.

In 1813, the miller Johann Friedrich Meyer built a Dutch windmill on the western edge of Bardowick, after several failed applications for concessions in Lüneburg in the 17th and 18th centuries. To date, the old windmill is in commercial use and can handle 300 tons per year. A green department store with a health food store is the second economic pillar of the business. After the mill was wingless and provided with a pitched roof since the 1950s, she was able to recover their old appearance in 1994/95 with the support of the local windmill club in a comprehensive restoration.

Today, the new wing movement drives a shotgun, a 20 KW generator transforms the wind energy into electricity, which is used to drive the electric motors of the other grinders. Of particular technical interest are the wings of the mill. The so-called ten-have wings with Fokwieken and Remklappen are a Dutch variant of the famous Ventikantenflügel, the German aviator Major Bilau invented in the 20s. The technical maturity of this wing design gives the Bardowicker windmill a high wind yield and a safe wing control. The rotating wings of the old mill with the massive towers of the Bardowicker Domes in the background form an incomparable sight from the Bundesstraße 4.

There is a farm shop and the mill cafe.

Mühlencafe is always worth a break. Opening from 14 o'clock. Our journey continued to Scharnebeck (boat lift). Along the canal further to Artlenburg and back along the Elbe.
