Schloss Pragstein is a historic castle, often referred to as a fortress, nestled in the market town of Mauthausen, Upper Austria. Situated directly on the Danube River at an elevation of 290 meters, this prominent landmark is even featured on the Mauthausen municipal coat of arms. Its unique keel-shaped design, with a distinctive wedge-shaped tip facing the river, was ingeniously engineered to act as a breakwater, protecting the structure from the powerful currents and ice of the Danube.

In 1491 Lasla of Prague had the Pragstein Castle built as a "moated castle" on an island off the shore. Today the music school, the local history, trophy, Gerstmayr and pharmacy museum are housed in the historic building on the Danube.
