The castle is surrounded by the largely preserved medieval complex of the former Cologne town of Linn with extensive parks, which also include some of the ditches and bastions that were part of the earlier fortification.

On the southeastern edge of Krefeld are the castle and town of Linn, easily accessible by car (A57) or public transport. The visit is worth it - next to the rebuilt fortifications and the adjacent residential complexes there is an interesting museum.
The foundation of today's castle was founded on an artificially raised hill around 1200 by the Counts of Cleves. The castle was rebuilt around 1400 by Mrs. von Saarweden and expanded with a curtain wall in 1475.
The castle was destroyed in the War of the Spanish Succession 1701 – 1704. Around 1740 the hunting lodge was built in the outer bailey. In the 1950s, after the Second World War, the ruins were rebuilt according to the original plans.
When you visit the castle, you can clearly see from the outer walls which parts of the building were renovated and where. By the way, the reconstruction work was done very well =) The roof of the keep is a bit disturbing. Well, you can't have everything.
The castle and the hunting lodge can be visited for a small fee. The ticket office is in the hunting lodge and you can choose between a complete tour for 3 euros or just the castle tour.
Especially since the hunting lodge also shows a nice insight into life back then.
The history of the castle and numerous photo documents of the reconstruction can be seen in the castle palace. The keep can of course be climbed and you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from there.
The moat was dug again and the parks were restored to their original condition.
If you feel like it and have the time, you can walk through the adjacent Greiffenhorstpark and reach the Greiffenhorstschlösschen, a manor house that was built in 1843. If you are traveling towards the Lower Rhine or the nearby Ruhr area, we recommend a detour to Krefeld. It is worth it ..
