The nature reserve should not be entered. From the path you have two options to go down to the lake. There is also a small bench on the spot next to the viewpoint. From the vantage point you have a great view over the lake in the former clay pit. There you will also find a picnic table. A nice, quiet place.

For a long time, clay and loam were extracted in western Gochsheim. However, due to numerous limestone inclusions (Kalkmännle), the extraction was not profitable and was finally abandoned in 1976. A few years later, one of the largest populations of great crested newts in Germany was discovered in the old walls. In 1986, the area was designated as a nature reserve.
