The Vegetable Battle is a non-violent battle between residents of the districts of Nordstadt and Linden in Hanover, which first took place in 2003 with around 45 participants.
The two parties meet each year in September on the lying between two parts of the Sleeping Beauty Bridge to throw themselves with mostly spilled vegetables. The meetings have no violence-oriented background and are more sarcastic in referring to the local patriotism of the two former workers' districts. The battles in 2003 and 2004 were registered as a demonstration and took place with city approval. Subsequently, the parties cleaned the bridge itself. In the following years, there were disputes over the cleaning and the associated costs of about 700, - €. In 2009, the city of Hanover took over the cleaning of the bridge.
The vegetable battle is in the process similar to the Berlin vegetable battle between the districts Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.
