Plauer (Luckenberger) Gate Tower
Watchtowers next to the gate were a special feature of Brandenburg towns.
The cylindrical, four-storey tower was built around 1400 and was connected to a battlemented gate, with a door leading to the battlement. The connection to the city wall can be seen on the northwest side. The tower was provided with crossbow slots on all sides. The projecting privy on the west side above the former moat shows the location of the former guard room. The top was formed by a projecting half-timbered storey ("hurdle") with a conical helmet and dormer windows. After a long period of decay, an expressionist jagged crown and a new wall cone with a forged stork's nest were added in 1928 (restored in 1985). Further extensions in the romantic style have now been demolished.
