The town church of Lauterbach is considered one of the most beautiful evangelical rococo churches in Hesse. It was completely rebuilt from 1763 to 1767 by Georg and Georg Veit Koch.

The stately hall church, with a strong pilaster structure and a huge mansard roof, is simply designed. Only the side facing the market with the high, square tower is ornamentally decorated and provided with the stone coat of arms of the patron lords.

The interior is impressive because of its spaciousness. The delicate rococo stucco work is tinted in mildly changing pastel colors of pink, light green and yellow. The spacious sermon church is surrounded on three sides by two-storey galleries and has around 1200 seats.

From the baptismal font to the lectern in the chancel parapet, the view behind the altar is drawn to the richly decorated pulpit wall. From its gentle vibration of reddish-tinged marble, the lapis lazuli blue pulpit emerges exaggeratedly three-quarters of a circle. Here the pulpit is the same focal point of the church as the altar.

The most valuable grave monuments of the Riedesel, a stone Madonna and some smaller sculptures are taken from the previous Gothic church. However, the most valuable surviving piece is a late Gothic Marian altar, which is kept in the neighboring Hohhausmuseum.

The Protestant town church, built by master builders Georg and Georg Veit Koch between 1763 and 1768, is one of the most beautiful rococo churches in Hesse and a pearl of the high baroque. The stately hall has a richly decorated pulpit wall made of stucco marble with side columns and rococo ornaments. There are double galleries on three sides, which end in two-story boxes in front of the chancel. Numerous grave monuments of the barons Riedesel from the 16th century come from the previous Gothic church.
