Even at first glance, one can see where the climatic health resort of Friedrichstadt on the North Sea in Schleswig-Holstein has its roots: The canals, bridges and Treppengiebelhäuser speak their own, namely Dutch language. "Klein Amsterdam" or "Holländerstadt" is usually mentioned in the same breath as Friedrichstadt.
Friedrichstadt - a passion for yourself
The many waters for the canals come from the rivers Eider and Treene, which meet in Friedrichstadt and also stand outside for a fertile, charming nature reserve. On extended bike rides or canoeing you can explore the beauties of this region.
Another passion of Friedrichstädter are the roses. Combined in all its splendor with the cobblestone streets and the white Treppengiebelhäuschen offers the holidaymakers a romantic backdrop.

Friedrichstadt was built in 1621 by Duke Friedrich III. His goal was the establishment of a trading metropolis. He brought Dutch citizens to the place and granted them freedom of religion. As a result of this measure, members of many other religious communities settled in the "City of Tolerance". The buildings of the Dutch brick renaissance and canals characterize the cityscape of the "Dutch town" which is considered a high-ranking cultural monument.

Friedrichstadt was in 1621 under Duke Friedrich III. of Schleswig - Gottorf founded by expelled Remonstranten. The image of the city is still shaped by the old houses in the Dutch Renaissance style.

A beautiful Dutch town in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein. The canals and Treene are worth a trip at any time of the year, especially as there are really great restaurants like the aquarium.

Very nice old town with houses around 1600, which have beautiful facades. The market square, where the restaurants and cafes put their tables, is surrounded by these facade houses.

Friedrichsstadt is titled as little Amsterdam. Very nice city, with old buildings and a lot of canals.
