Fort Deckstein, as it is also called, was built between 1873 and 1876 as part of the outer fortification ring of the Prussian era. According to the Versailles Treaty, after the First World War, only the town-facing Kehlhaus and the side ramparts were allowed to remain.

The Decksteiner Fort was built in 1873 and razed according to WW I. It had various functions. Today it is used for sports. The surrounding landscape has been converted into an enchanting rock garden with the help of the structural remains after the partial grinding.

To get a better overview of the fort, I have uploaded a couple of pictures of the plan here.
                  Table 3 and 4
Unfortunately, these have already suffered somewhat from the weather, but this does not detract from their usefulness.
                  Have fun exploring!

"Fort VI is located north of Gleuler Str.
As part of the new fortification belt, construction work began in 1873 and was the first structure to be built.
The fort was completed in 1876 so that it could be put into use for the first time.

Like all fortresses, Fort VI was designed and built as an artillery fort with infantry support.
The neighboring forts were 3450m (Fort V)/3000m (Fort VII) apart.
The effective firing distances were further minimized by the construction of intermediate structures.
So that the forts and intermediate structures could optimally cover each other.

With the introduction of explosive ammunition, the Cologne fortresses had to be reinforced. For cost reasons, the Kehl barracks were only partially reinforced.
In a subsequent modernization measure, new components such as intermediate space guards (Fort VI & VII), connecting batteries and watchtowers were installed in the particularly threatened fortresses.

Fort VI is one of the few fortresses that received the entire modernization program.
The fort was also converted into an infantry fort, the gun emplacements with their traverses were cleared.
Instead, the surface of the fort was given gun emplacements, some of them made of concrete.
The shoulder caponiers and the top caponiers were torn down and replaced by shoulder and top trench defenses made of concrete.

In 1921, the fort was demolished in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles..."
