The Fodara Vedla refuge was initially created as a camp for the Austro-Hungarian troops during the First World War. Here, you can also visit a small thanksgiving chapel built at the end of the Second World War.

The Fodara Vedla Refuge has a long and eventful history behind it. It all began during the First World War, when the Austro-Hungarian troops, who held their position in this area at the time, created a military camp on the Fodara plateau.

In 1923, after the war, the Mutschlechner family took over the abandoned officers' barracks, which became habitable the following year. In 1935, when the Dolomites became a popular destination for tourists and hikers, the refuge was transformed into an accommodation facility with guest rooms. At the beginning of the 1980s the refuge was renovated with the creation of 12 rooms with shower, hot water and electricity. At that time a real luxury at 2,000 meters above sea level. The latest renovation and modernization interventions date back to 2014.

Today the Fodara Vedla is a modern Alpine refuge, immersed in a green valley, surrounded by stone pines and magnificent farms. In its wooden stuben you will be spoiled with traditional specialties of local mountain cuisine.
