The medieval city fortifications in Guben had 3 gates. Klostertor, Crossener Tor and Werdertor date from the 14th to 15th centuries, together with the round towers from the 16th century, an impressive defense ensemble was created. In the 19th century, a large part of the facilities was demolished due to the poor technical condition. Only parts of it with the Maiden Tower and the Werderturm have been preserved.
