Hiking

According to tradition, the tower was built around 1530. It was part of the Werder Gate, which no longer exists today, and thus the city wall, the construction of which began in 1523. In the course of the city's expansion, however, the fortification lost its function over time. The walls were torn down and the building materials were used to build houses and bridges. The tower was preserved; In 1659 a clock was installed. The wooden dial is still preserved and is now in the Gubin Museum Chamber.

The medieval city fortifications in Guben had 3 gates. Klostertor, Crossener Tor and Werdertor date from the 14th to 15th centuries, together with the round towers from the 16th century, an impressive defense ensemble was created. In the 19th century, a large part of the facilities was demolished due to the poor technical condition. Only parts of it with the Maiden Tower and the Werderturm have been preserved.
