Despite the z.T. renovated and modernized parts of the building, the monumental complex with the many vacant parts of the building looks a bit scary. Not least because of all the military-looking ruins around it.

"The" Colossus of Prora ", a 4.5-acre complex of five-storey concrete buildings, was built by the Nazis as a Kraft-von-Freude-Seebad (KdF) with 20,000 vacationers and 2,000 employees in ten thousand 2-bed rooms with sea views Find accommodation.
Laying of the foundation stone was on 2 May 1936 and in a record-breaking time of only 17 months, the shell was completed. At the outbreak of the war, the construction work was stopped. In the carcass 8 bed houses and a part of the quay were finished. The whole thing was not completed and never used as a seaside resort.
In the 1950s, military use began as barracks and military schools, while in the southern section the NVA recreation center "W. Ulbricht" was built. In 1990, the site was taken over by the German Armed Forces, which completely abandoned Prora in 1992. Large parts remained empty and left to vandalism. Today there are numerous museums and exhibitions in the buildings. "Source: ruegen.de/erlebnisse/top-highlights/kdf-bad-prora.html
