The Cancano Lakes are two adjoining artificial reservoirs, owned by A2A S.p.A., Fraele sites in the Valley in the town of Valdidentro, near Bormio, renowned tourist resort in Valtellina in the province of Sondrio.
These two basins are fed, on the whole, from the waters of the river Adda, who was born not far from the two basins on the Mount Iron as well as the flow rates of the Spöl channel, Gavia - Ovens - Braulio Canal and the new Bormina Viola Channel.
The total capacity of the two reservoirs is 187 million cubic meters of water and feed the central hydroelectric Premadio, also located in the town of Valdidentro.
The two basins, despite their close proximity have different names: Lake of St. James and Lake Cancano II
