The home and natural history museum Wanne-Eickel is one of the three sites of the Emschertal Museum. In the year the city was founded by Wanne-Eickel (1926) it was established as a museum of local history. After several relocation, it is now housed in the former elementary school of the now Herne district "Our Fritz".

Today, exhibits from the world of mining, inland shipping and transport in the Ruhr area, the formerly large bakeries of Wanne-Eickel and domestic life are presented there. Special exhibits include the fully preserved Art Nouveau décor of a 1905 drugstore and the ornate "Bude" from 1900 in the courtyard.

There are also numerous historic trams, rail vehicles and mining vehicles set up. Upstairs is the natural history collection, which came through the excavations of the nearby Rhine-Herne Canal to original mammoth bones and fossils.

The Heimatmuseum Unser Fritz is the old Wanne-Eickel town museum. The building, not far from the Rhine-Herne Canal, originally served as a school for the district of Unser Fritz. The local history museum was set up in 1926 - the year the town of Wanne-Eickel was founded - and changed location several times in its early years before it moved to the building that was no longer used as a school. Today, as the local history museum of Our Fritz, it is a much-visited part of the Emscher Valley Museum. Special exhibits are the old drugstore with furnishings from the Art Nouveau period and an old kiosk, the "Bude" well-known in the Ruhr area, which is crowned by the figure of Fortuna, the goddess of luck. The statues of the miner, the railway worker and the bargeman, who once stood for the most important economic sectors of the city and today at the local history and natural history museum, are a reminder of the industrial past. They used to be exposed at an important traffic junction, popularly known as the "three-man corner".

Fritzchen the Gleiscafé, here you can eat traditionally and comfortably and the food is good and cheap! Anyone who is out and about on the Rhine-Herne Canal near Wanne-Eickel should definitely take a break here! Great atmosphere! The café is in the back yard of the local museum Our Fritz!
