Address: Am Schloß 3, 09669 Frankenberg; Sachsenburg Castle rises near Frankenberg / Sa. on a rock over the Zschopau. The castle complex, which was built in the early 13th century at the latest, was converted into a castle in the 1480s. The complex is one of the few examples of a completely preserved late Gothic residential palace in Saxony.

The late Gothic castle Sachsenburg was built in its present form 1480-1488 under Caspar von Schönberg. It is next to the Albrechtsburg in Meissen as the oldest preserved in its original form residential castle in Saxony.
