The Rumbach rises as Ruhmbach in Essen district Haarzopf and flows into Mülheim in the Ruhr. In the Essen area and also in the Mulheim district of Holthausen the stream flows in its natural aboveground bed.
In Essen area the Rumbach Ruhmbach is written. From the confluence with the Steinbach but without h, so Rumbach. The city archives Mülheim has the following explanation: "When snowmelt and heavy rain events set the Rumbach the main roads under water. He was rumbling and got his name. "
