The predecessors of Kitzscher Castle were first mentioned as a manor house with settlement in 1251.

The namesake was the noble family Guntherus de Kiczschere, which died out in the 17th century. After the construction of the castle in the 19th century, a part of the aristocratic family of Arnim settled in Saxony became the owner of the castle. Curt von Arnim as the last owner was expropriated in the course of the land reform in the Soviet zone of occupation in 1945, the castle demolished in 1960.

The town of Kitzscher preserves the memory of the history by renovating the foundations to a park-like residence.
