The view of the Bridge of Sighs from the Ponte della Paglia in Venice is one of the most iconic in the city. From that angle, you can see the white stone bridge that connects the Doge's Palace to the former prison, framed by historic buildings and reflected in the canal that runs through it.
It's a popular spot for photos, especially at sunset, when the light softens the details of the bridge and the canal water reflects the warm tones of the sky.

Characteristic baroque bridge over the Rio di Palazzo. It connects, with a double passage, the Palazzo Ducale to the Prigioni Nuove. It served as a passage for prisoners from the aforementioned prisons to the offices of the State Inquisitors to be judged.

It was built in Istrian stone between 1600 and 1603, designed by the architect Antonio Contin, son of Bernardino Contin and nephew of Antonio Da Ponte, the builder of the Rialto Bridge.

Known worldwide, it is photographed by tourists from all over the world. It was given this name because tradition has it that, at the time of the Serenissima, prisoners, crossing it, sighed at the prospect of seeing the outside world for the last time.

The name "Bridge of Sighs" is attested as early as the end of the eighteenth century.
