A noble von Sinzenich family can be identified between the 13th and 15th centuries. From 1374 the lords of Gertzen were castle owners. They were enfeoffed with the castle by the duke from 1380.

Between Sinzenich and Linzenich is the moated castle Burg Sinzenich, after which a family of knights was named that existed as early as the 13th century. In 1895 the castle complex burned down due to a lightning strike.
A Zülpicher manufacturer rebuilt the former southwest wing of the medieval outer bailey and part of the moat was also filled again.
