Sevinghausen has retained most of its rural character from all seven districts of Wattenscheid. Name giving was the former water castle Sevinghausen, to which probably once seven (seving) yards (houses = houses) belonged, which still stand today: yard Grümer (Schultenweg 1), yard Helf (in the yards 37), yard Winkelmann (in the yards 2), Hof Portmann (Portmann's Weg 1), Hof Staleickmann (Wattenscheider Hellweg 320), Hof Hackmann, today's restaurant "Kümmel Kopp," whose tavern and brewing right goes back to the 30-year war (1618-48) (Wattenscheider Hellweg 249 and House Sevinghausen (Vienhovenweg 78) In the 12th century, a Knight of Sevenhusen is recorded.
