At the site of today's Havelhaus was formerly a small building in which the ferryman lived. When Babelsberg Castle and its park were created, the park attendant was quartered here. Since the original building burned down later, the Havelhaus was built in its present form in the 1880s.

The beautiful, two-storey plastered building was renovated after a fire. A square corner tower, tail gables and a polygonal bay window were built in the Tudor style.
