The University of Sassari (Italian: Università degli Studi di Sassari; Latin: Universitas Turritana Sacerensis) for short UNISS - is a state university in the city of Sassari on Sardinia with around 18,000 students. It was founded and financed by the Sardinian merchant Alessio Fontana in 1562 for educational policy reasons and initially managed by a Jesuit college.
